At Kilmarnock Sub Aqua Club (KSAC), we’re proud to have a team of dedicated instructors who are fully qualified through the Scottish Sub Aqua Club (ScotSAC). This means your training follows a nationally recognised syllabus designed for Scottish diving conditions—cold water, tides, and safety protocols that matter in real life.
Our instructors are not just experienced divers—they are volunteers who give their time freely to help others discover the joy of scuba diving. Every lesson you receive is backed by passion, professionalism, and a commitment to safety.
Why Choose ScotSAC Training?
ScotSAC is Scotland’s national governing body for scuba diving. Its instructor pathway ensures that anyone teaching you has:
- Extensive diving experience in UK waters
- Up‑to‑date medical clearance
- Assessed teaching skills in pool, classroom, and open water
This rigorous process guarantees that your training is safe, structured, and tailored to Scottish conditions.
Instructor Qualification Levels
Open Water Instructor (OWI)

- Be a Sport Diver for at least 18 months
- Log 75+ UK dives
- Complete Dive Leadership training and advanced safety lectures
- Pass assessed pool and open‑water sessions under supervision
Regional Instructor (RI)
Regional Instructors go further, supporting training across multiple branches. They must:
- Hold Master Diver status
- Complete a residential RI course
- Pass lecture, pool, and open‑water assessments
A Volunteer‑Led Team
Every KSAC instructor is an unpaid volunteer. They give their evenings and weekends to help others dive safely. ScotSAC supports this ethos by funding instructor training and ensuring volunteers are never out of pocket for essential expenses.
When you train with KSAC, you’re learning from someone who dives for the love of the sport—not for profit.
